Thank you for publishing your website. I know absolutely nothing about writing a book and have limited english. However, I have put together 70,000 words in the from of a book. I would be very happy to receive any help, regarding this project. What do I need to do now. Any advice please

In the case of Manning, I used OpenOffice Writer to create and work on Word documents. It’s not a particularly smooth ride with some people using Word and others OpenOffice, but it worked without too many issues. I have heard that other publishers go for DocBook or Latex.

You might not have 10 books under your belt, but you definitely have a good feel for many of the factors that go into writing a book. That’s a great list, thanks for sharing some thought provoking stuff.

@Bill No post on dealing with publishers, etc. I’m afraid. To be honest, I was approached by the publisher in the first instance and it went from there. In other words, not a lot of experience dealing and negotiating with the publisher.

I might also add, "Read Philip Greenspun's The Book Behind the Book, which discusses his experience working with a conventional publisher in exhausting detail. Although it's highly unlikely that all parts of it will apply to all writers, I still think it worth the read.
